Packaging | UQAM: Des souris et des hommes (Sarah Déry)
Of mice and men
Our relations with animals are a very troubled one. We cherish some and we slaughter others on very subjective basis. For instance who ever proved that cats are more intelligent than pigs? And even if they do, it’s still a very thin line that separates the two. Maybe it has to do with odor? I don’t think so. But we have to eat will you say. Yes of course, but do we have to be so cruel.
This is what Sarah Déry explored in her packaging project in my class. What are our relation with mouse and rats who share our ability to adapt and therefore end up living not so far from us. We want them out and the whole process of getting ride of them is brutal to some and disgusting to others. So Sarah tried to solve all these problems by developing this mousetrap that is already provided in a coffin box to make it easy to handle with respect for the dead beast. Feel free to bury it after use.
All pieces are included except the rubber mouse and this concept haven’t been tested on living animals.
